GREASY FINGERS

On 5th April we had a unique workshop called "GREASY FINGERS". It was organised was the same group with whom I went for my previous ride. The programme was led by of Ashok Captain, He is great cycling personality of Pune. His energy level was awesome and the best thing which I liked about him was his talking style.

We started the workshop at around 8 AM. We all had to perform tasks on our own bikes. Ashok initially talked about basic Bike fit like seat height/ fore-aft position/ angle; handlebar etc.

The first task was to take off the front tyre and put it back. It was very easy on the bikes like mine as they have quick release. Second task was remove the tube from the front wheel and look out for a possible puncture. All of us fixed the puncture on a sample tube. Last task was to take off the rear tyre and put it back. This was a bit tricky one as one has to take are of the gears. I took some time finish this one.

Though we had finish lot more stuff but it was already 12 noon. So we had to stop there but we'll cover them in later workshops Then we had a competition.

By the end of this was all had greasy fingers .. :) .

Then I drove back to Viman Nagar from Deccan on my bike.. which was a real fun.

Cycle Ride ..

Last Sunday I went for around 45kms ride on my new bike .. TREK 3700, which I bought on last to last Sunday. I went with 100+ cycle enthusiasts. There is cycle group in Pune who go cycling regularly. Co-Incidentally I came to know about this group on the day, I bought my cycle.
I met Ulhas who manages the group at the shop, Surender Cycle Store.

I was not sure whether I will be able to ride this much in one day. So, on Saturday I came to Akshay's house (Baner)
which is around 16km from my place(Viman Nagar) on my cycle. It took around 1:30 hours. Then I stayed at his place onlyas the place from where we need to start Sunday's ride is near from his place comparatively.

On Sunday I started from Akshay's house at 5:15 AM. I had to go near NULL stop.
While driving I was thinking that I am not yet ready for such a long ride and I should go back. So, I thought I should at-least go till the starting venue and will return from there.

While I was thinking this, a cyclist just passed me at very high speed.
At that time I decided that I will go for the full ride. I reached at the starting venue at right time, 6AM.I meet few cyclist there and started the ride.

We have to cross Varje, NDA and Peacock Bay to reach our destination, which is the farm house of the cyclist.
I started with group of cyclists. Most of them went ahead of me. After Peacock Bay the ride was bit difficult.
We were going and going then one person who was standing on the road told us to take left to go farm house. And guess what .. we reached our destination. I didn't believe that I did it. It was great.

Then we had the introduction and breakfast. There were Doctors, CAs, S/W engineers, students. Some of the cyclist were 60+.I came to know that the cyclist who was passed while I was coming to starting point was the winner of Enduro3.

Then I talked to some of the folks there and headed back. I returned via Chandni Chawk.I reached back at 10:30 AM. I had a great time and will go for more rides.

From Support to Development

So, its been some time since my profile had changed .. from support to development. its has been very happening till now. Leaning new things.. debugging things more closely. Few things I learnt, which I will now follow forever:-
  1. Coding style.
  2. Think for sufficient time before you code.
  3. Take a paper and pen and follow your code with sample values.
  4. Use the editor effectively.
  5. Free the allocated memory.
I am putting down above things after 4 years of experience. Isn't this bad?
Yes. it is.

I didn't take care of above things when I was into support. But that would be an excuse. All of them are building blocks and these should be clear when you code in college .... but for that you have to code...

In my college days we preferred to copy the code rather writing it from scratch . This is only possible when your faculty is not good enough. Thanks to them, for providing me the content of this blog entry.

Frets on Fire

By looking at the meeting minutes of the last PLUG meet I came across a video game called "Frets on Fire". Frets on Fire is a free, open-source Finnish music video game created by Unreal Voodoo in which players use the keyboard to play along with on-screen musical notes to complete a song.

I liked the game and ended up playing this game rest of the weekend. My highest score in Easy mode was 16436. IMHO, this game will be helpful for all those who wants to learn Guitar. This game is available on Windows, Linux and Mac.

First step towards implementing my New Year Resolution

On 1st Jan'09 I decided that I'll learn Guitar his year. After inquiring for several times I finally went yesterday(31st) to join the class. Its been a month late but atleast I joined in the Jan month only.

After getting my pick I went to class where Mayur (Guitar Teacher) gave me first lesson.I played it for some time. Then I realised that it is not as easy as it seems. Putting the fourth finger at the correct place was the first task.I was able to do few times before leaving.

I hope to keep my interst alive for learing guitar.

24th, 25h and 26th Jan'09

Last weekend DJ, Gulal, Kundan and I went to Diveagar (दिवेआगार) beach at Konkan.
It is around 200 km from Pune . We started on 24th afternoon and reached there around 5:30 PM.We just reached there on time as evening is the best time to enjoy there. Apart from DJ all of us jumped into water.

After playing sometime with the Rugby ball which I took we enjoyed the Sunset.

We reached to our hotel around 7 PM. After having bath we headed towards the beach again to do the camp-fire.
But it was too dark so we came back and wandered here and there. Then we went to Mauli restaurant to have the dinner. Then we came back and had some light chat and went to bed.

Next day (25th) we woke up early and went to beach again. Its was good but not better than the last evening. At 9 AM we started for Harihareshwar , which is around 30 kms from Diveagar. There is temple near the beach.

We visited the temple and after having the breakfast we headed back to Pune. We reached back to Pune at 5:30 PM.

After that I went to drop DJ to shopper's stop as he needs to meet someone :)... and while returning I bought the tickets of Raaz. After coming back Gulal and I went for a walk. Later we all we all went to Pizza Hut at JM Road. Then we went to E-Square to watch movie.

On 26th we woke up at 8 and then had breakfast at Shiv Sagar (Aundh). Then DJ, Gulal and came to my place and we went to to have Lunch at Prem's, KP. After that I came to my flat and rested all the evening.

Overall this was one of the best weekend I had in Pune.. enjoyed a lot.
